Dear Parents and Carers
We celebrate Child Safety Week this week and highlight the importance of children having the absolute right to feel and be safe – no matter where they are.
It’s a good chance to talk to your children about any times they don’t feel safe and what they can do in these situations.
GROUNDS UPDATE
Work has continued on the school landscape project (albeit at a reduced rate) and is really beginning to take shape.
E-Safety (from Corina Watson – our Child Safe Officer)
As we are spending more time online, everyone including our children is connecting socially online via a variety of apps and web-based platforms. It is vitally important that our students are engaging online in a safe manner and that parents and families are aware of the apps and platforms children are using. Due to the additional time spent online, we are regularly hearing of primary aged children accessing platforms that are not age-appropriate, one of these platforms is Discord. Please find below some information regarding Discord from the e-Safety Commissioner. We encourage you to take the time to chat with your child about how they connect online and what platforms they are using so you can support them to make safe choices online.
What is Discord?
Discord is a social chat platform commonly used by online gamers that is available on computers and mobile devices, and accessible via a web browser. It lets you create a profile and interact with other users via online messaging, voice or video chat. You can share images, files and links to other services. The paid subscription option lets you upload larger file sizes, gives additional options for appearance customisation, and provides higher quality audio for voice chat.
Initially designed for the gaming community, Discord now hosts servers on a wide variety of interests. Once you have created a profile you can join servers based on your interests or create your own server and invite people to join. Servers are broken down into specific topics known as channels which can be flagged as NSFW (Not Safe For Work), meaning not safe to be viewed at work. For NSFW channels a user must click a button to indicate that they are over 18 before entering the chat.
Website: discordapp.com
Apps: Android app, Apple iOS app

SCHOOL LEVIES
Once we are in a position to determine whether camps, excursions and swimming will be able to go ahead next term, we will be able to make an adjustment to the school levy in Term 4. Amounts will be credited to school fees once this is finalised.
SCHOOL REVIEW
In Term 4, the school will undergo a review as part of our regular School Improvement Cycle and as part of our Government Regulations. Covid restrictions permitting, there will be a group of four reviewers at school for three days. The report from the Review helps to form our Strategic Plan for the next four years.
NAPLAN
Naplan results have been posted to parents of students in Years 3 & 5. These can also be accessed through PAM.
FOOTY COLOURS – Friday 17 September
On the last day of term we will have a Footy Colours Day and children can wear their footy colours to google meets or to school for those onsite. If you don’t have a footy team- no issue – take the opportunity for free dress.
Theme: Have faith
Going through life and all of its ups and downs can take a toll on us. At times, it’s enough to question our very existence. But through all of the trials and tribulations we might face, it’s faith that gives us that helping hand. It works to guide us in the right direction, moving us towards and allowing us to discover our purpose in life. During these challenging times it’s hard to have faith. Faith is the knowledge that things will get better. It’s during our challenges that we have faith knowing we aren’t alone, we have each other and our Lord carrying us.
