Dear Parents and Carers
How wonderful it was to see the smiles on the faces of our Year 4 students who finally had the opportunity to attend Camp. Whilst there was some muddy clothes that came home hopefully there were lotsof fun stories too.
Our Year 3 Students will be heading to Phillip Island for a one night camp on Monday 3 October (First day of term 4). There are sure to be many advetntures to be had on this camp also as they visit the Koalas and Pengiuns.
UNIFORM
From the beginning of Term 4, students are welcome to wear their summer uniform. There will be a two week change over period where students can wear either uniform (but it must not be a mix of the 2 uniforms). From Monday 17 October all students are to be wearing Summer School Uniform. ALL students are expected to be in full school unifrom until the end of the school year.
BEFORE AND AFTER SCHOOL CARE
For those that use Before and After School Care you may have noticed the new access gate that has been installed. This will allow us to keep our school gates closed over the holidays and increase the school safety. From next week, to access Before and After Care parents will need to enter the code (which has been provided to you by Camp Australia) to open the gate on entry and exit after dropping the students off. The code is NOT be shared with students. The code only allows access at certian times and days of the week.
If you need to contact Camp Australia to gain access please call them on 0450 253 460.
SCHOOL ATTENDANCE, LATE ARRIVAL AND EARLY PICK UP
It’s a balancing act if you’re a parent as one the most important things you can do to ensure your child has a bright future is to make sure he or she goes to school every day - and gets there on time. It sounds simple, but it’s true. The correlation between school attendance and children’s achievement levels is well established. The more time kids spend at school, the more likely they are to experience school success. Of course, most people know this intuitively, yet school absenteeism is a huge problem in Australian schools.
According to a report by the Australian Curriculum and Assessment Authority nearly 13 per cent of Australian students are missing at least one year of schooling by the time they reach year 10. In today’s highly competitive world, this rate of absenteeism is alarming, putting our kids at a distinct disadvantage.
If your child is absent from school please ensure you let the school know by 9.30am either via phone, PAM or email absent@stclaresofficer.catholic.edu.au
Our updated sign in/out system is now operating and linking to our attendance software. Students arriving late (after 9am) must be signed in at the office by a parent or guardian. Likewise students being collected early from school must be sigend out in the office by a parent. Once parents arrive at the school we ask you to come into the school office at which point we will then call your child to the office. You will be required to then sign your child out through the new system.
Thank you for your understanding and patience as we all become famliar with this new system.

In this edition of SchoolTV - EATING DISORDERS
Understanding an eating disorders can be difficult for families. There are many myths around what causes an eating disorder, but it is actually diagnosed as a mental illness. Although the focus is on food, weight and shape, there is often an underlying issue being masked by the eating disorder. It is the biggest killer of any psychiatric illness for young people. It affects both males and females of any age or background.
An eating disorder is a serious and potentially life-threatening mental health illness. It can have significant physical and emotional effects. The beginning of adolescence and late teens are peak periods for kids to experience their first symptoms. Young people with eating disorders can have reductions in cognitive function, emotional changes and may even stop participating in their normal daily activities.
In this edition of SchoolTV, parents will learn what warning signs to look for and what can be done in the prevention of an eating disorder.
We hope you take time to reflect on the information offered in this edition of SchoolTV and we always welcome your feedback. If you have any concerns about your child, please contact the school counsellor for further information or seek medical or professional help.
