Dear Parents and Carers
Last Thursday was a special occasion for our students as we celebrated the official Blessing and Opening of our Jubilee Garden and surrounding grounds. There were many comments from the official guests about the behaviour, singing and general engagement of the students.
The beauty that our school now offers can be summed up in the words of some of our students:
- Our garden has flowers and plants and trees for shade. Some kids feel calm around nature and this will help them. (9 year old)
- All the St Clare’s kids feel safe and love our new playground and gardens - We can plant and relax and run around freely and have fast games and lie on the grass and have quiet time and chill out and have fun - and just be kids. (7 year old)
- And from a Foundation student – ‘I can’t wait until I grow up and I’m as tall and as big as the trees in the Jubilee Garden – then I’ll know it’s the Jubilee Forest!’
MORNING DROP-OFF
Just a further reminder to parents that supervision of students at school begins at 8:30am. Parents are asked not to allow students to arrive at school before this time unless enrolled in the Before School Care Program. (This includes cyclists, walkers and those who are driven to school).
Parents are welcome to park in the school grounds and remain with their children in the car until 8:30am.
Please note also that students who are dropped off in Majestic Drive prior to 8:30am are not supervised by staff and remain the responsibility of their parents.
Sunsmart
As we are now in warmer weather and UV ratings are high ALL students are required to wear a hat every day for both first and second break. Students are also required to wear the hats home as UV ratings are still high at 3.10pm upon dismissal.
This means that students will need to establish a routine where the hat is placed in the school bag upon returning home. They will then take the hat out of their bag each morning when arriving at school and place it with their lunch box and water bottle so they are ready for eating time and the first break.
Please support students to place their hats in their bags each afternoon when arriving home.
If students do not have a hat to wear they will be asked to play under cover.
Congraulations
We congratulate Mrs Courtney Barret and her partner on the safe arrival of their baby girl on Wednesday 26 October. We look forward to having her visit us all soon.
Well done to Okitha who participated in the 100m sprint, long jump and shot put events at the School Sports Vic State Championships last week
Poppies (badges and wristbands) are available for purchase fom the school office - there are items rangin from $1 to $5
For Religious Education, teachers use a curriculum called To Live in Christ Jesus. This curriculum has four Strands and four Lenses.
The strands are the four areas through which content is learned and Religious Education is shared and understood.
The Strands are:
- Triune God
- The Life and Mission of Jesus
- Sacramental Church
- Christian Life and Catholic Social Teaching
The Lenses are the perspectives through which we view the Strands. The Lenses are also bodies of knowledge divided into four learning areas:
The Lenses are:
- Scripture
- Tradition
- Christian Prayer and Liturgy
- Religion and Society (Year 5 and 6 only)
Students cover the content of the curriculum To Live in Christ Jesus through an Inquiry. During the Inquiry, they are presented with a question and then over the course of 4-5 weeks they show what they know and the skills they have gained through conversation (dialogue), work samples and research (mini projects or investigations).
Reporting on Religious Education is now the same as reporting for English or Mathematics. Teachers are required to assess students on their knowledge of the content and their skills in Religious Education - they are not assessing a student’s faith. For this reason, at the end of this Semester students will be marked below standard, working towards the standard, at standard or above standard for Religious Education.
For reporting purposes, teachers enter a mark for each of the Strands and Lenses (that are applicable) and the reporting package combines these into one overall mark.

In this edition of SchoolTV - FRIENDSHIP & BELONGING
Learning how to make new friends and keep them involves a number of skills every young person needs to understand and develop. For some these skills will come very naturally, allowing them to easily move between different friendship groups, sharing their experiences and opening up to new people. For others, this can be much harder to navigate. Belonging to a group that is like-minded with similar interests is highly beneficial to a young person’s wellbeing. It gives them a sense of security helping them feel valued which in turn builds their confidence.
Positive friendships are an important part of the journey to adulthood. Adult carers can support their child or teenager by providing guidance in the many social and emotional skills required for a healthy relationship. This will help them to obtain, retain and maintain friendships. However, not all friendship are regarded as positive. Sometimes young people develop negative or toxic friendships. Therefore it is also important for them to learn how to identify, avoid or deal with such a friendship.
In this edition of SchoolTV, adult carers can learn how to support their young person’s friendship so that they experience a sense of belonging.
We hope you take time to reflect on the information offered in this edition of SchoolTV and we always welcome your feedback. If you have any concerns about your child, please contact the school counsellor for further information or seek medical or professional help.

Dear Parents and Guardians
We hope you all had a lovely little break. Next week here at OSHC we have national recycling week, where the children will get to create all different kinds of things such as robots and cars etc, we please ask that if you have any empty cardboard boxes or milk bottles etc that you are able to bring them in to add to our ever-growing collection so the children have lots of materials to choose from.
Due to our policies and procedures we please ask that you drop your child/children off at the door. We require parents to sign children in and out of the service. We are not able to bring your children down to the gate as this impacts our ratio requirements in the room. When children arrive in the morning please don't say goodbye at the gate. They must be escorted and signed in at the PSHC room. them being dropped at the gate and getting to the door we are unable to see them.
Kind regards
Chelsea and Pooja
